MEDICAL MANAGEMENT OF CARIES & Silver Diamine Fluoride/SMART Therapy

Friday, October 27, 2017

8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Each year Vermont spends about $2 million treating early childhood caries (dental decay in children under age six) in hospital settings under general anesthesia.

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a new, FDA approved evidence-based treatment ideal for treating caries in people who are unable to access dental treatment or tolerate conventional dental care, including very young less cooperative children, persons with intellectual, developmental disabilities, patients with xerostomia, or older adults.  It is a simple procedure not requiring specialized equipment that can be provided in medical practices, WIC clinics or other public health settings.
